Meeting Reminder
Hi all,
Just a reminder that our meeting is tomorrow night at 7pm at the Arizona American Italian Club.
Please be advised that I received an email from the club informing us that their kitchen will be closed until early March as they are renovating and getting a new chef.
With that being said, for tomorrow’s meeting the AZ 10-13 will cover the cost to have pizza delivered to the club at 6pm. Our club will also cover beer and wine with dinner. The club will not cover the bar tab after our meeting.
Please respond to this email if you plan on attending as we need a head count to order enough pizza for all to enjoy.
See you all tomorrow night. Stay safe and be healthy.

COVID SURGE
Due to the recent increase in COVID cases, I ask that our members please respect each other’s choices and adhere to social distance guidelines while attending club meetings and events.
We must keep in mind that a number of our members are at a high risk of exposure which could lead to severe symptoms. I’ve had it and I’ll tell you it was not a fun experience. Let’s try to follow CDC guidelines when we are together, whether we agree with them or not.
We are NYer’s and we often greet each other with hugs. l ask that we hold off on the hello and goodbye hugs at meetings and club gatherings for the time being.
I’m am not picking sides and I’m not here to start a debate. I just want all of our members to feel safe when we are together.
I hope to see you at the luncheon and the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. Be safe and stay healthy.
Fraternally,
Larry Carito

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
March 26, 2020
Our President Frank has emailed a message to the members and asked to have it posted on our Facebook page as well as our website. If you did not receive the email, please check your spam/junk folder as it may be there. If it is not there please respond to this post.
March 26, 2020
To all members of the Arizona 10-13,
I sincerely hope that all our members and their families are coping well with this terrible pandemic. This is a difficult time for all. As police officers we are more capable than the average person in dealing with adversity. The job gave us the skills to not panic in stressful times. We WILL get through this as we have throughout our careers.
I would like to thank our Vice President, Larry Carito for arranging a luncheon and “field trip” to the Good Guys car show. Due to circumstances relating to the Corona Virus sadly both events were cancelled. Additionally our March meeting has been cancelled. To that end, I am communicating via email and will ask Larry to post this on Facebook.
Since many, if not almost all Government services are shut down I do not foresee any meaningful legislating coming from Albany.
Dues were past due on January 31, 2020 and must be accompanied with a completed annual application. Once this information has been received a courtesy card will be forwarded to you. Those who have not paid are no longer receiving Club information and have been placed on an inactive list.
At our last meeting Jerry Sheridan, who is a retired Maricopa County Sheriff, presented us with a very informative and interesting presentation. Our 10-13 has endorsed Jerry and are hoping that all our members will cast their ballots for him.
In closing, we will do our best to keep our membership appraised of any new information. Additionally please, remember recommended HYGIENE, stay safe and if there are members in need of assistance, PLEASE reach out to your fellow MOS.
Fraternally,
Frank R. Stoecker, Sr.

Sadly, I am informing you that our Chaplain, Bruce Rivera has lost his brother. Please keep Bruce and Maria in your thoughts and prayers. (date of notice 11/16/20).
Owen Kelly has passed away. Owen was a member of the club for many years.
Here is the information for anyone that wants to pay their respects.
Owen Kelly, of Gilbert Arizona, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 at his family home on Sunday, November 3, 2019, following a brief illness. Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to Edward and Elizabeth Kelly, he enjoyed his early years in Brooklyn, New York.
After college, Owen dedicated himself to a path of service, first to his country with the United States Army in Vietnam, and then to the citizens of New York City, as a NYC Police Officer, ultimately retiring as a Detective with 20 years of service in 1984. He then gave an additional 17 years of service to the New York State Attorney General's office, finally ending an illustrious law enforcement career in 2001. Following retirement, Owen and his wife Cathy relocated to Mesa, Arizona where he became a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and volunteered at Dignity Health in both Chandler and Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cathy, children Tracy Michne (Michael), Scott (Tami Finerow), Beth (Kevin Peterson) and Kathleen (Matt Sliker), as well as four grandchildren Alexis, Austin, Alyssa and Amber, his sister Colette and several close family members.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W. Juniper Ave., Gilbert, AZ 85233, from 6-8PM. 10-13 SCAM ALERT!!! ****** UPDATE******
It has come to my attention that a scam has been perpetrated on some of our board members. E-mails are being received that appear to be coming from our President, Frank Stoecker, Sr. In the body of the e-mail Frank asks the recipient to pick up 5 gift cards, for $100 each, for the veterans hospice. He says they were promised by our 10-13 Club. He states that he's unavailable for one reason or another and that he will reimburse by check.
Our 10-13 website only has the phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the board members so I doubt that any other members will be affected by this scam but forewarned is forearmed. I will be contacting the office of the state Attorney General. I will also be bringing a copy of one of these e-mails with me to the meeting Thursday evening.
If anyone receives a similar e-mail please forward it to me before deleting.
UPDATE: I just received the same scam worded a little differently. Read it below with my response.

We are happy to announce that an agreement has been reached regarding NYCPD
I.D. Card renewals for out of town, 10-13, chapter members. This procedure needs to be followed exactly as outlined in the NYCPD ID Card Renewal Procedure and the Retiree Application.
This NYCPD ID Card renewal program is ONLY for chapter members who are NOT living in the five boroughs of New York City and the six counties in which active members are permitted to live. The chapter member requesting an NYCPD ID Card renewal must be a dues paying member of associated 10-13 chapters and needs to give that information upon application.
